Tinubu celebrates as Kukah turns 73

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the contributions of Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, to Nigeria’s democratic journey and national reconciliation as the cleric marked his 73rd birthday on Sunday.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President recalled Bishop Kukah’s involvement in several national assignments that shaped governance and dialogue in Nigeria.

“Bishop Kukah served as a member of Nigeria’s Truth Commission, Secretary of the Political Reform Conference, member of Nigeria’s Electoral Reform Committee, and worked assiduously to promote harmonious relationships between Christians and Muslims as Chairman of Nigeria’s Inter-religious Dialogue,” the statement read.

Tinubu said the Bishop’s commitment to peace and democracy continues to resonate within and outside the country.

“Bishop Kukah’s role in the struggle for the return of democracy in Nigeria and his support for peace and harmony are remarkable,” the President stated.

The Presidency also noted that Kukah’s efforts extend beyond religious leadership to addressing governance challenges, human development, and justice. As he turned 73, President Tinubu wished him good health, wisdom, and more years of service
