Tinubu committed to tackling youth unemployment – Akume

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has reaffirmed the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to addressing youth unemployment and improving the welfare of Nigerians.

Akume gave the assurance when the newly elected executive council of the Nigerian Youth Council (NYC), led by Comrade Jethro Annum, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

He commended the delegation for its show of solidarity with the administration, stressing that President Tinubu has pioneered pragmatic initiatives and policies aimed at alleviating the suffering of citizens and creating opportunities for young people.

“As a youth-friendly government, we will continue to support you in all your activities, including the provision of a befitting secretariat and logistics support to aid your nationwide efforts in coordinating, sensitizing, and empowering Nigerian youths to take advantage of our laudable initiatives,” Akume said.

Responding on behalf of the NYC, Board Chairman Dr. Yakubu Shendam expressed appreciation for the warm reception and government’s support so far. He pledged that Nigerian youths would remain loyal and committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration.

Shendam lauded the launch of the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and other empowerment programs targeting young Nigerians, noting that such initiatives are crucial to breaking the cycle of poverty.

He also commended the administration for its infrastructural development, improved security measures, and efforts to grow the economy.

“As youths, we are excited by these achievements and want to openly identify and partner with the government to ensure peace, security, and development of the country.

“From an empty treasury, the visionary leadership of the current administration has grown our foreign reserves to over $50 billion. This is laudable, and we are proud of this monumental feat,” Shendam said.

The visit, he added, was aimed at receiving the SGF’s blessings as a political leader, pledging the loyalty of Nigerian youths to the current administration, and seeking further support to enable the NYC to effectively deliver on its mandate.
