Onimisi assumes office as NYCN president, pledges unity, dialogue

Comrade Babangida Onimisi has officially assumed office as the National President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), vowing to promote unity, inclusiveness, and constructive engagement among Nigerian youths.

In his acceptance speech, Onimisi expressed deep gratitude to Nigerian youths for the confidence reposed in him, describing his election as a collective victory for all young people who believe in the nation’s future.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to youth empowerment through the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said has created opportunities for young Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to national development.

The NYCN President also appreciated state governors for their youth empowerment initiatives and Chief Seyi Tinubu, whom he described as a “visionary leader” committed to ensuring that youths remain central to the Renewed Hope vision.

He praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, for ensuring a peaceful and well-secured election, and the Minister of Youth for his “detribalized and pragmatic approach” to youth development.

Onimisi lauded all NYCN stakeholders and political actors for their cooperation and commitment to the unity of the Council, pledging to serve with fairness, humility, and transparency.

“I pledge to be fair to all, to listen to all, and to serve all. I am now a servant of this great Council. My mission is simple — to work for you, to serve you, and to ensure that the NYCN becomes a stronger voice for every young Nigerian,” he stated.

Emphasizing that his administration would prioritize dialogue, diplomacy, and collaboration over confrontation, Onimisi said: “Progress is achieved through dialogue, diplomacy, and constructive engagement. Those who make a meaningful impact are those who build bridges, not walls.”

He called on youths across the country to unite under one vision for national progress and outlined plans to complement government efforts through programs focused on digital inclusion, entrepreneurship, leadership training, and innovation.

Onimisi also pledged to strengthen youth participation in agriculture, technology, creative industries, sports, and governance, affirming that the Council under his leadership would serve as a catalyst for national development.
