There are clear benefits from the fear of the Lord
“But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,19to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.” (Ps 33:18-19)
“the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him.” While “the eye of the LORD” is upon all people (vv.13-14), it rests in special way on those who “fear him” (see.34:15). God’s “eye” refers to God’s caring love and providential oversight of our lives. “To deliver their soul from death, And…famine” means that as long as we fear the Lord, put our hopes in Him, wait for Him and remain in His will, God will watch over and protect us so that we will not die unless it be according to His plan.
“As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him. 14For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.” (Ps 103:13,14)
God shows mercy to those who truly fear Him. The fear of God is a redeeming fear that motivates us to turn away from evil, to keep God’s precepts, and to seek the Lord’s nearness and grace. The blessings God gives to those who fear Him are; (1) His mercy, lovingkindness and forgiveness (vv.11-12,17; cf.Is 1:18;38:17; Jer 31:14); The blessings God gives to those who fear Him are; (1) His mercy, lovingkindness and forgiveness (vv.11-12,17; cf.Is 1:18;38:17; Jer 31:14); (2) His fatherly love and compassion (vv.13-14); (3) his faithfulness and goodness to their children (v.17).
“He who fears the LORD has a secure fortress and for his children it will be a refuge” (Prov 14:26).
“And the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that He may preserve us alive, as it is this day.” (Deut 6:24)
“Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him.” (Ps 34:9)
To fear the Lord means to show deep respect and honour to him. We demonstrate true reverence by our humble attitude and genuine worship. Reverence was shown by Abraham (Gen 17:2-4), Moses (Ex 3:5,6), and the Israelites (Ex 19:16-24). Their reactions to God’s presence varied, but all deeply respected him. Read Ps 34:1-14.
“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (Ps 34:1). Psalm 34 God promises great blessings to his people, but many of these blessings require our active participation. He will deliver us from fear (34:4), save us out of our troubles (34:6), guard and deliver us (34:7), show us goodness (34:80), supply our needs (34:9), listed when we talk to him (34:15), and redeem us (34:22), but we must do our part.
