FUOYE warns SSANU against destabilising varsity

Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has warned the national leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), led by Muhammad Haruna Ibrahim, to desist from what it alleged as “political blackmail and malicious propaganda” against the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina.

Recall that the leadership of SSANU had on Monday in Ado-Ekiti addressed the newsmen, alleging that the Vice-Chancellor was planning to disrupt Ekiti governorship election.
The SSANU leaders also called on the Federal Government to remove Fasina from office to guarantee peace on the campus.

But in a statement yesterday signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the VC, Dr Wole Balogun, the university condemned what it called SSANU’s “desperate and unrelenting smear campaign”, noting that after failing woefully in its earlier attempt to malign Fasina with false allegations of sexual harassment, the union had resorted to spreading baseless rumours that the Vice-Chancellor was involved in political manoeuvring ahead of forthcoming elections in Ekiti State.

The university described the accusations as “lies from the pit of hell”, adding that several members of SSANU’s local leadership in FUOYE had themselves been involved in acts of gross misconduct, violence, and indiscipline on campus.

According to the statement, it was some members of the FUOYE SSANU leadership, who attempted to disrupt a peaceful meeting of staff held on October 14, 2025, convened by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Senator Ndoma Egba (SAN).
