A man sustained injuries yesterday after a Lexus jeep veered off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and struck him while he was defecating in a roadside ditch.

The crash occurred after the vehicle reportedly suffered a tyre burst while in motion, causing the driver to lose control and plunge into the ditch.

Confirming the incident in Abeokuta, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the Lexus jeep, with registration number AAA 444 JP, rammed into the ditch after the tyre burst, hitting the victim.

He said the man sustained varying degrees of injuries and was immediately rescued by emergency responders.

According to Akinbiyi, only two people were involved in the incident: the driver and the injured pedestrian.

Operatives of TRACE, the Nigeria Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps were deployed to the scene to carry out rescue and traffic control operations.

The injured victim was taken to Famobis Hospital for treatment, while the crashed vehicle was towed off the road to restore traffic flow.
