Imo State is set to host a two-day digital media summit aimed at strengthening communication, digital engagement and regional participation in governance across the South East.

The South East Progressive Digital Media Summit 2026, scheduled for February 11 and 12 in Owerri, is expected to draw more than 1,000 participants, including journalists, bloggers, content creators, new media aides, policymakers and industry stakeholders.

Speaking at a press conference in Owerri on Monday, the coordinator of the summit and Senior Special Assistant to the Imo State Governor on Electronic and Creative Media, Mr Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, described the event as a platform to advance responsible digital communication and structured engagement in public affairs.

“The summit scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 11 and Thursday, February 12, 2026, in Owerri, Imo State, is a strategic platform designed to strengthen digital media engagement, promote responsible communication, and deepen progressive participation in governance and nation-building across the South East,” Nwaogwugwu said.

He explained that the theme of the summit, “The Critical Role of Digital Media in Enhancing National Integration of the South East,” reflects the focus on using digital platforms to address regional inclusion and national cohesion.

According to him, the summit is intended to build capacity among digital media practitioners and align messaging in support of governance initiatives at both regional and national levels.

“The principal objective of the Summit is to mobilise coordinated, disciplined, and positive digital media support for Progressive Governors of the South East and the Presidency’s progressive administration, through structured engagement, capacity building, and message alignment,” he said.

Nwaogwugwu added that discussions would centre on emerging digital trends, democratic values, national development, and the communication of government policies, including the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He disclosed that the event would be declared open by the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, and is expected to be attended by governors from the South East, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, members of the Federal Executive Council from the region, and other party leaders.
