The eldest daughter of late gospel singer and evangelist Omije Ojumi, Jomiloju Adeoye, spoke emotionally at her mother’s burial, describing the deep bond she shared with her mother and the struggles they faced as a family.

At her mother’s burial, Jomiloju spoke of the special bond they shared and the struggles she faced growing up. She described Omije Ojumi as “the best woman in the world” and the only person who made her feel truly valued.

She also spoke about her father’s absence, saying he “did not care” or call during her childhood, adding, “Imagine, now he is calling when he knows that someone has left.”

Jomiloju concluded her tribute with gratitude, acknowledging her uncle’s support, and emphasising that no words could fully describe her mother’s impact on her life.

Many gathered to celebrate Omije Ojumi’s life, remembering her contributions to gospel music and her devotion to ministry.

Omije Ojumi, whose real name was Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, passed away on January 12, 2026, at a Lagos hospital after a brief illness. She was 46 years old. The family announced her death through a statement signed by her brother, Olawale Akinnaanu: “With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, OMIJE OJUMI. May God grant her eternal rest.”

Her burial marked the end of weeks of mourning, during which family, colleagues, and fans shared memories of her life and ministry.

Omije Ojumi built a strong reputation in Nigeria’s gospel music scene through her spirit-filled songs. Among her notable albums were Dabira and Alatilehin, both of which became widely used in church services, prayer meetings, and gospel programmes across the country.

She was also a minister and mentor. She frequently led prayers, ministered at church crusades, and participated in revival programmes.

Despite her passing, Omije Ojumi’s legacy continues through her music and ministry. Her albums, performances, and spiritual guidance remain a source of inspiration for worshippers and fellow gospel artists alike.

As friends, family, and colleagues said their final goodbyes, Omije Ojumi’s music and ministry continued to remind everyone present of her devotion to God and the impact she had on gospel music.
