Delta State Police Command has recorded fresh operational breakthroughs against kidnapping and cult-related violence, following the successful rescue of kidnapped victims across the State.

The police spokesman, Bright Edafe, who confirmed the development, said the police are poised to nip in the bud the growing insecurity on inter-state and rural roads.

Edafe explained that five armed men, suspected of being kidnappers, reportedly blocked the Ewu–Ajekuta Road on February 2, 2026, at about 9:30 pm and forcibly abducted four occupants of a Toyota Sienna vehicle.

The brazen operation, carried out under the cover of darkness, highlights the audacity of criminal gangs operating across Nigeria’s highways, he said.

“Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Otu-Jeremi swiftly mobilised operatives in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes from the Ewu community.

“After a sustained pursuit, the abducted victims were successfully rescued and taken to a hospital for medical treatment”, Edafe stated

He said two expended 7.5mm ammunition were recovered at the scene, while a manhunt is ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.

In a separate operation on February 3, 2026, operatives of the Ibusa Division raided a suspected cult gathering at Anioma Garden, Ugboli Quarters, Ibusa, following credible intelligence.

According to him, one suspect, identified as Michael Ayauze, was arrested, and preliminary investigations allegedly linked him to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.

He said a search on the suspect led to the recovery of an English Beretta pistol, a live round of ammunition, and assorted charms, while other suspected cult members escaped during the raid.

Meanwhile, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, reiterated the command’s resolve to clamp down on kidnapping, cultism and other violent crimes, urging residents to remain vigilant and support the police with timely information.
