Tinubu felicitates Matawalle on birthday

President Bola Tinubu and minister of state for defense Bello Matawalle

President Bola Tinubu has extended warm birthday wishes to the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, applauding his dedication to national service and contributions to governance.

In a congratulatory message, the President described Matawalle as a committed public servant whose career has spanned education, ministerial responsibilities and state leadership.

He noted the minister’s role as a key member of the administration’s Renewed Hope team and recalled his tenure as Governor of Zamfara State from 2019 to 2023, during which he worked to address security and developmental challenges in the state.

President Tinubu particularly acknowledged Matawalle’s ongoing efforts in the fight against banditry and terrorism, stressing that collective resolve and cooperation among security stakeholders remain vital to restoring lasting peace and stability across the country.

He reiterated that all hands must remain on deck to ensure that perpetrators of violence are brought to justice.

The President also observed that the minister’s birthday coincides with a joyful period in his family life, marked by the celebration of his children’s marriage ceremonies, describing it as a double blessing.

Tinubu wished Dr. Matawalle good health, longevity and continued impactful service to the nation.

Matawalle, as Minister of State for Defence, is driving military modernization, local manufacturing, and international partnerships to enhance Nigeria’s security.

He has spearheaded production of local assets like 20 light armoured vehicles by EPAIL Nigeria, five Hulk MRAP vehicles by Proforce, and “mountain climber” motorcycles for terrain mobility.

These efforts boost troop protection and reduce import reliance, alongside procuring advanced APCs and drone surveillance tech.

Matawalle’s directives have led to neutralising bandit leaders in the North-West and over 8,000 terrorists/bandits in 2024 via coordinated operations, including the Multi-Agency Anti-Kidnap Fusion Cell.

He promotes collective security responsibility and proactive counter-terrorism against Boko Haram and ISWAP.

Through defence diplomacy, he has engaged partners like Turkey (IDEF, patrol vessels), US Africa Command, and Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition for training and intelligence.

He is launching a Skill Acquisition Training for Veterans (SAT-V) programme in March 2026 to upskill retirees, plus advocating Defence Development Fund for private investment.

These align with the “Matawalle Doctrine” for self-reliance and industrial growth.
