A 25-year-old labourer, Ibrahim Oseni, has been arrested for allegedly killing his 18-year-old cousin, Hassan Suleiman, in Edo State.

The incident occurred on February 19, 2026, in Evbuoarue community, Orhionmwon Local Council of Edo State.

The Deputy Commander, Operations, of the Edo State Security Corps, Richard Balogun, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect had been handed over to the Ugo Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.

Balogun said operatives of the Evbuoarue unit of the Igbae Sector Command arrested Oseni following a distress report of a murder in a bush in the community.

Preliminary findings indicated that the suspect and the deceased had an unresolved dispute in their hometown in Katsina State in 2025, although they later relocated to Benin City for work.

According to Balogun, Oseni allegedly lured his cousin to a farm road in Evbuoarue under the pretext of collecting herbs for a stomach upset.

“On getting to the farm road, the suspect brought out a cutlass and beheaded him. He took his mobile phone and N36,000 before fleeing,” he said.

The deceased was later declared missing by associates in the community.
Balogun alleged that part of the money was transferred to the suspect’s family in Katsina State.

He added that the cutlass allegedly used in the attack was recovered from under the suspect’s sleeping mat, while the deceased’s mobile phone was found where it had been hidden.

Suspicion reportedly arose after the suspect informed members of the community about the death and led them to the scene. The matter was subsequently reported to the security corps, leading to his arrest.
