• As Rotary Club of Ota holds historic fellowship

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has hosted the Rotary Club of Ota as the club recorded a national first by holding Nigeria’s inaugural Rotary fellowship on a moving train.

In a statement issued at the weekend by the Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, Callistus Unyimadu, the corporation described the initiative as a remarkable demonstration of innovation in civic and humanitarian engagement.

According to the statement, the historic fellowship brought together members of the Rotary Club of Ota aboard a moving train for fellowship, leadership interaction, and strategic discussions focused on service to humanity, climate action, and sustainable community development.

The event was led by the Club President, Mr. Charles Umukoro, alongside members of the executive council and general membership.

Unyimadu noted that key officers present at the gathering included Vice President Bisi Seleso, Pioneer President Olumide Adebiyi, Treasurer Olumide Omotola, President-Elect Fatai Wasi, and the club’s doyen and longest-serving member, Dr. Kele Abolaji, among other distinguished Rotarians.

The statement further highlighted the visit of the Railway District Manager, Engr. Rasheed Adedeji, who welcomed the Rotarians on board, describing his presence as a demonstration of the strong relationship between the NRC and the Rotary Club. In a symbolic gesture of shared values and partnership, Engr. Adedeji was formally inducted into the Rotary Club of Ota following his welcome address.

Beyond the historic fellowship, the statement said the event also reinforced Rotary’s commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action, with the club commencing a large-scale tree-planting exercise on Friday, 28 February 2026, to support climate change mitigation and environmental protection within host communities.

Unyimadu described the moving-train fellowship as symbolic of progress, innovation, and forward movement—values that align with the transformation agenda of the Nigerian Railway Corporation. He added that through this landmark initiative and its environmental intervention, the Rotary Club of Ota has positioned itself as a pacesetter in redefining fellowship, service, and impact in Nigeria.
