Ogun seals two buildings over environmental violations

The Ogun State Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation Department in Abeokuta South Local Council has sealed two buildings over alleged environmental pollution and regulatory breaches.

The Director of the department, Mrs Roseline Akintade, said the enforcement followed repeated notices served on the property owners, who failed to comply with directives issued by the agency.

Akintade explained that one of the affected properties, located in Leme, was sealed after its owner constructed a septic tank close to a borehole, resulting in water contamination and posing health risks to residents who rely on the source.

“In Leme, Abeokuta South Local Council, a notice was served on the owner of the property concerning a septic tank erected close to the borehole. The borehole had been polluted as a result of linking the septic tank to it,” she said.

She added that the second building, a private school, was sealed for constructing a fence across a waterway, thereby obstructing the free flow of water and creating the risk of flooding and possible structural damage to nearby buildings.
