Firm targets underserved communities with clean energy push

Clean Energy

Pledges 2GW electricity supply across global south by 2030

Worried about the persistent low level of power supply in many rural areas, a global energy tech company, Husk has pledged to deliver clean and cheap electricity to millions of underserved and unserved communities across Africa and Asia.

The company noted that access to electricity remains a major challenge on the African continent, where millions of people still live without reliable power.

According to the firm, In Africa alone, over 600 million people, which is approximately half the continent’s population, still lack access to power.

In a statement by its Manager, Strategic Communications, Ridwan Adelaja, the firm emphasised its commitment to bridging the energy gap and expanding electricity access in remote communities.

“In Africa alone, over 600 million people, which is approximately half the continent’s population, still do not have access to power. The reality is that bad, and unthinkable. But, at Husk, we are determined to bend the curve by ‘planting’ the first bulb(s) in numerous rural communities,” Adelaja said.

He explained that the company’s long-term objective is to significantly scale up clean energy delivery across emerging markets.

“For Husk, the mission is simple but not without challenges. And, at the moment, it is to deliver 2GW of clean energy across the Global South by 2030,” he stated.

Adelaja noted that Husk has built a strong operational track record over nearly two decades in the energy sector.
“With 18 years in operation in Asia, and six years in Africa, Husk has grown to become the world’s largest portfolio owner and operator of private sector mini-grids,” he said.

Reflecting on his role within the company, Adelaja said he looks forward to contributing to the organisation’s communications and stakeholder engagement efforts.

Adelaja who joined the AI-enabled Distributed Energy Resources (DER) platform said there are so many communities to be #EmpoweredWithPower.

His words: “I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the success the team has been recording with Olu Aruike, Sarath, Williams, Preeti, Achenyo, Mohammed, Jatin, Anil, Rukayat, and the rest of the team spread across multiple locations.

“Husk is my new commitment. And, you will read from me from time to time on our progress.

“Comms stretches, and requires someone who is fluid, and ready for new challenges. It is, therefore, my hope that I will work across departments to craft compelling stories, develop impactful communications strategies, and foster stakeholder relationships across governments, investors, and communities.”
