The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Lagos State, has provided free medical services to residents of Oshodi/Isolo as part of its Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).
The programme was held at the Oshodi/Isolo Local Council field, in collaboration with the Council chairman, themed “Your Health, Your Greatest Asset.”
The NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Christiana Salmwang, who spoke at the event, said the initiative was part of the scheme’s quarterly outreach to improve access to healthcare at the grassroots.
She noted that the programme targets underserved communities, offering free medical consultations, drugs, tests, health education, first aid services among others.
Salmwang said the initiative aligns with the NYSC’s community development service goals, adding that it is designed to address pressing health needs and promote preventive care.
She, therefore, urged residents to take advantage of the services and also called for continued support from community leaders and stakeholders to sustain the programme.
Also speaking, the representative of the Oshodi/Isolo Local Council Chairman, the Council Secretary, Banjoko Leke, described good health as essential to productivity and national development.
He said investment in healthcare would enable citizens to contribute more effectively to the economy and improve the overall well-being of the residents.
The HIRD programme is a regular intervention by the NYSC aimed at extending basic healthcare services to communities with limited access to medical facilities.
