The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that security operatives repelled an early morning attack in Pwomol Village, Heipang District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, on April 6, 2026, at about 4:30 a.m.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the command received a distress call reporting gunshots in the area, prompting the Commissioner of Police to mobilise a joint response team comprising the Divisional Police Officer of Barkin Ladi, military personnel, and other security agencies.
The operatives engaged the attackers in a gun duel, forcing them to flee into surrounding mountainous forests, reportedly due to the superior firepower of the combined team.
During the attack, three persons were confirmed dead, while one other sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
In a follow-up clearance operation, the security team arrested a suspect identified as Suleiman (male) around the Redemption Camp area. He was reportedly found with visible blood stains and is currently in custody.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He assured that a thorough, professional, and transparent investigation would be conducted to apprehend fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
He also urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and to report any suspicious movements to the nearest security agency.
The statement added that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has reinforced security in the area with additional deployments, intensified patrols, and improved inter-agency collaboration to restore public confidence and prevent further attacks.
The command further reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, while urging residents to comply with curfew directives to avoid sanctions.
