Detectives from the Igbesa Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old man, Chidi Ebere, for the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa, Ogun State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident occurred at about 7:00 a.m. yesterday.
The suspect reportedly boarded a motorcycle operated by the victim, Sunday Ogbu, aged 36, and attacked him in an attempt to snatch the bike, resulting in a violent struggle.
A witness at the scene raised the alarm, prompting police operatives to rush to the location. The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention but was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
The suspect was immediately arrested, while the motorcycle and the knife allegedly used in the attack were recovered as exhibits.
He added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the incident and assured that justice would be served.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
