Tony Unuavworho has won the third edition of the AfricaRe golf tournament for CEOs, which came to a thrilling end at the golf section of Ikoyi 1938 at the weekend.
To win the keenly contested encounter, Unuavworho shot 38 stable points, beating his closest rival, Ancy Okoebor, by two points, while Obinna Okwoji, who also grossed 36 stableford points, came third.
Elated with the result, Unuavworho thanked the organisers for a job well done, admitting that beyond skills, luck also played a role in his victory.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank Africa Reinsurance, the sponsor of this tournament. I wish them well and pray that they continue to be successful,” Unuavworho said.
Earlier, the Regional Director for Anglophone West Africa at Africa Reinsurance Corporation, Temitope Akinowa, restated the corporation’s commitment to supporting golf and the Nigerian economy.
“We are very happy with this third edition because it coincides with our 50th anniversary celebrations. We’ve been around for 50 years, we’ve been very strong, and we’ve been supporting the economy of Africa despite the challenges. We are happy we can hold this third edition, and we are happy with the turnout,” Akinowa said.
Other winners in the 18-hole competition were Olaide Adekoya, Yetunde Ojo and Ifeoma Obata, who won in the Ladies stableford category, while Segun Adekoya won the Longest Drive on Hole-9 for men.
Annie Eimiakhene won the Ladies Longest Drive on Hole 9, Nearest to the Pin on Hole 11 went to Ademola Osindero, while Yetunde Ojo picked the prize stake in the Ladies category.
Davisther Brokers Ltd, with 65 stableford points, won the Insurance Team category, while Joken Insurance Brokers, with 64-points came second.
The 2026 AfricaRe tournament for CEO’s coincided with the 50th anniversary celebration of the insurance firm.
