The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has dismissed as false a widely circulated online notice alleging that it has halted its student loan scheme.

In a statement shared on its X account on Saturday, the Fund said it had not declared any suspension of loan disbursements and advised the public to ignore the claim, urging reliance on its official communication channels.

The clarification follows heightened public interest in the scheme, which the Federal Government says has supported over one million students since its launch, expanding access to higher education nationwide.

The fake notice, which had been circulating online, claimed that “due to unforeseen operational circumstances, NELFUND has taken the difficult decision to temporarily pause the student loan disbursement programme with immediate effect.”

However, NELFUND dismissed the claim, stating; “This document is fake. Kindly disregard the circulating letter on suspension of student loan disbursements. NELFUND has not issued any such directive.”
