LSSTF boss commends safety agency’s community policing model

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr Ayodele Ogunsan

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, has commended the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) for its operational efficiency, technological advancement and community-driven policing model.

Ogunsan made this known during a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters, accompanied by the fund’s Director of Administration, Mr Adegbola Lewis. He reaffirmed the LSSTF’s commitment to sustained support for the LNSA and other security agencies across the state, noting that security remains central to economic growth, social stability and investor confidence in Lagos.

He was received with a guard of honour and decorated with the LNSA Medal of Honour, alongside a commemorative lapel pin, in recognition of his contributions to the state’s security framework.

The visit included a tour of the agency’s facilities, where Ogunsan inspected surveillance drones, body-worn cameras and other equipment deployed to support intelligence gathering and rapid response.

The LNSA, established by the Lagos State Government as a community-based security outfit, complements conventional law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police. Its responsibilities include intelligence gathering at the grassroots, patrols, crime prevention and fostering peaceful coexistence within communities. Its personnel, drawn largely from local areas, use their familiarity with neighbourhoods to monitor activities, mediate disputes and provide intelligence.

Speaking after the inspection, Ogunsan acknowledged the agency’s progress under its General Manager, Dr Ifalade Oyekan, and its personnel. He said the agency’s strength lies in its community-focused approach, noting that officers who live and serve within their communities enhance trust and improve intelligence gathering. He added that the agency reflects sustained investment and a clear focus on public safety.

In his response, Oyekan expressed appreciation for the continued support from the LSSTF, describing it as vital to the agency’s operations. He reiterated that the neighbourhood-based policing structure remains central to its strategy for proactive crime prevention and effective service delivery.

The visit underscored ongoing collaboration among security stakeholders in Lagos, aimed at strengthening intelligence-led and community-based approaches to emerging security challenges.
