An accomplished entrepreneur and global advocate for peace and unity, Dr. Prevail Ahmed; renowned marine surveyor, logistics consultant, Dr. Festus Nwiue and Deputy President-General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Hannah Funmilola among other distinguished personalities have been slated for recognition at this year’s conference of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON).
Scheduled to be held on Friday, April 30, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, the conference is expected to bring together key stakeholders across Nigeria’s maritime, logistics and blue economy sectors to deliberate on emerging challenges and opportunities in port operations and technological advancement with the theme ‘Attaining Port Efficiency in the Face of Emerging Technology.’
Congratulating the awardees, AMJON President, Vera Osokpo, described the honours as well deserved, even as she reminded them of the greater responsibility attached with the recognition.
She noted that discussions at the conference are carefully designed to shape policy conversations and set the agenda for the continued growth of the country’s marine and blue economy sector.
According to the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Raymond Tedunjaiye, all nominees underwent a rigorous screening process and were carefully selected for the various award categories, including Most Distinguished Female Entrepreneur of the Year, Most Resourceful Port Manager of the Year, and Most Outstanding Port Infrastructure Personality of the Year, among others.
He noted that previous AMJON conferences have remained credible platforms for constructive dialogue on critical issues affecting Nigeria’s maritime industry and the broader economy.
Assuring participants of an enriching and impactful conference, Tedunjaiye added that participants expected at the conference include representatives from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigeria Police Force, maritime labour unions, terminal operators and the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
Others to be honoured at the event, Tedunjaiye added include an accomplished freight forwarder and maritime stakeholder, Chukwumalu Emeka; Emmanuel Anda, Port Manager of Lekki Deep Seaport and a notable figure in Nigeria’s port operations sector; Olaide Olaiya, container logistics provider; Dr. Atoloye Adebowale Joseph, freight forwarding and logistics icon; and Abdullahi-Lagos Abiola, Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Customs Service, Lagos Free Trade Zone Command.
