In a significant move ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWMAN) has formally endorsed the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, for the state’s top job.
The endorsement took place during a unified meeting of the association’s members on Thursday at Mayfair Hall, Alausa, where the group cited Hamzat’s extensive administrative pedigree and institutional knowledge as the primary drivers for their support.
National President of AWMAN, Dr. Olugbenga Adebola, declared that the association’s stance aligns with the vision of their Grand Patron, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Adebola emphasized that the decision was rooted in a desire for capable, experienced leadership to maintain the state’s upward trajectory.
“He has shown capacity, competence, and tenacity in every office he has occupied. His contributions to project development and governance have been instrumental to the successes recorded under different administrations,” Adebola stated.
He described Hamzat as a seasoned technocrat and administrator whose track record in governance and public service sets him apart as a capable successor to lead the state.
According to him, Hamzat’s experience spans critical sectors of governance, having served under successive administrations in Lagos State. He recalled that Hamzat held key positions, including Commissioner for Science and Technology and later Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure during the administrations of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Babatunde Raji Fashola.
He noted that in these roles, Hamzat played pivotal parts in driving infrastructural development and technological advancement across the state.
Adebola further highlighted that Hamzat currently serves as Deputy Governor under Babajide Sanwo-Olu, a position in which he has continued to contribute to policy formulation and implementation.
He emphasized that Hamzat’s consistent involvement in governance over the years demonstrates not only experience but also deep institutional knowledge of the workings of Lagos State.
“He has shown capacity, competence, and tenacity in every office he has occupied. His contributions to project development and governance have been instrumental to the successes recorded under different administrations,” he said.
The AWMAN president also described Hamzat as a professional with strong leadership qualities, noting his technical expertise, humility, and responsiveness to the needs of Lagos residents.
He added that Hamzat’s role in the socio-economic development of the state, particularly in infrastructure and public service delivery, has set a benchmark worthy of continuity.
Calling on other professional bodies and stakeholders in Lagos State to rally behind Hamzat’s aspiration, Adebola expressed confidence that the state would remain in safe hands under his leadership.
He concluded by urging members of the association and the wider public to support Hamzat’s governorship ambition, stressing that his track record, integrity, and vision position him as a strong candidate for the job.
