President Bola Tinubu has commended Senator Basheer Lado for his contributions to legislative development, humanitarian services and democratic governance as the presidential aide marks his 60th birthday today (October 16).
Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), was praised for leveraging his legislative experience and public service background to strengthen relations between the Executive and the Senate.
In a congratulatory message issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Lado as a dependable public servant whose experience in lawmaking and public administration had continued to benefit the country.
The President noted that Lado’s four-year tenure in the Senate provided him with the institutional knowledge and experience required to facilitate engagement between the Presidency and the Upper Chamber.
Lado represented Kano Central Senatorial District in the Seventh National Assembly between 2011 and 2015, during which he served as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works.
Tinubu recalled that the former senator facilitated several constituency projects, including the Kundila Bridge, popularly known as Gadar Lado, in Kano State.
Beyond his legislative career, the President highlighted Lado’s contributions to humanitarian services and the protection of vulnerable Nigerians through his previous appointments as Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, and Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
According to Tinubu, Lado’s work in these positions contributed to efforts to combat human trafficking, protect vulnerable persons and improve the welfare and rehabilitation of displaced Nigerians.
The President also acknowledged the humanitarian activities of the Ladon Alheri Foundation, which he said had supported interventions in education, healthcare, women’s economic empowerment, rural water supply and assistance to disadvantaged communities.
“In the several capacities he has found himself, Senator Lado has been very impactful,” Tinubu said, citing his legislative record, public service engagements and humanitarian interventions.
As Lado attains the age of 60, the President commended his commitment to public service, loyalty to the Renewed Hope administration and contributions to strengthening democratic governance.
Tinubu wished the presidential aide good health, wisdom and strength as he continues to serve the country.
