The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, has commended the transparency and inclusiveness of the nomination process within the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a reflection of the party’s commitment to democratic ideals.
Bagudu spoke yesterday in Abuja where he joined a large delegation from Kebbi State to witness the submission of nomination forms by Governor Nasir Idris for a second-term bid.
According to the minister, the APC has continued to distinguish itself by ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants, noting that the party’s processes allow individuals to freely express their interest and participate without hindrance.
“Today, I am visiting the Sheraton Hotel as part of a large entourage from Kebbi State that came to witness the submission of the nomination form of His Excellency, our governor, for his second-term bid,” Bagudu said.
He emphasized that the exercise aligns with the party’s tradition of internal democracy and Nigeria’s broader democratic culture, where political participation is encouraged and protected.
Bagudu further noted that the repeated extension of the deadline for the sale of nomination forms demonstrates the party’s willingness to accommodate all interested aspirants.
“We can see that on a number of occasions, even the sale of forms was extended, meaning the party is determined to ensure that everyone who thinks he wants to contest will have a fair chance to do so,” he stated.
The minister added that such openness is not new within the APC, recalling that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu participated in a competitive primary election alongside several other aspirants ahead of the 2023 general elections.
He said this tradition underscores the party’s belief in competition, fairness, and equal opportunity for all members seeking elective positions.
Bagudu expressed pride in the party’s conduct so far, stressing that the ongoing process is a demonstration of political maturity and institutional strength.
He reaffirmed confidence that the APC would continue to uphold democratic values, ensuring that its internal processes remain credible, inclusive, and transparent as preparations intensify for future elections.
