Operatives of the Nigeria Police, Ondo State Command, have apprehended a kidnap suspect following an attempt to abduct a victim, Kayode Alaba, in Akure, the state capital.
The suspect, identified as Adeola Adegbenro, was arrested during a pursuit by police operatives who were on patrol along the Oba-Ile axis in the Akure North Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police public relations officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, the operatives embarked on the chase when an individual was shouting for help from within a red Toyota Camry.
Jimoh disclosed that during the hot chase, the victim was pushed out of the moving car, but one of the suspects was nabbed while other members of the gang escaped.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had earlier been abducted from his residence along Irese Road, Akure, prior to the timely intervention of the police operatives.
“The victim has since been rescued and is currently receiving medical attention. The arrested suspect has provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
“The case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Akure, for thorough and discreet investigation, as well as intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, commends the gallantry, swift response, and professionalism of the operatives involved in the operation.
“He reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State and assures the public that all perpetrators of criminal acts will be relentlessly pursued and brought to justice.
“The Command also urges residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely, credible and actionable information to police, as collective efforts remain vital in the fight against crime.”
