A socio-cultural group, The Voice of Indigenous People of Sii Community, has commended Fortune Lelesi Diginee, an Ogoni son based in United States , for amplifying the voices and visibility of the Sii community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State and the wider Ogoni ethnic nationality through the media and other significant developmental efforts.
In a statement issued by its General Secretary, Felix Samuel Kpaedee, the group described Diginee’s intervention as a significant contribution to development, promoting cultural awareness and unity among the people.
Kpaedee noted that the media content including a documentary by the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) showcased the challanges of the people , the rich traditions, struggles, and developmental aspirations of the Sii community, while also reflecting the broader identity of the Ogoni people.
He said the initiative has helped to draw attention to issues affecting the communities, while preserving their cultural heritage for future generations.
According to him, Diginee’s support demonstrates leadership, patriotism, and a strong commitment to grassroots development.
“Your visionary support has shone a much needed spotlight on these communities, promoting awareness, unity, and cultural preservation.
“This noble gesture reflects outstanding leadership and a deep commitment to community development,” he said.
The group, therefore, urged other well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture by investing in initiatives that promote indigenous cultures and community development.
Kpaedee also expressed appreciation to Diginee for supporting storytelling that amplifies local voices and strengthens communal identity.
It would be recalled that Diginee supported a television documentary aired on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) highlighting the challenges, cultural heritage, and aspirations of the Sii and wider Ogoni communities.
He also initiated the construction of a science laboratory and library for the community secondary school, alongside the sustained sponsorship of qualified teachers in core subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Physics, and Chemistry an intervention necessitated by the community’s inability to retain such professionals.
Diginee further facilitated the construction of a town hall to serve as a unifying space for dialogue and progress, among several other interventions.
The Philanthropist has also expressed determination to ensure the continued advancement and development of the Sii community.
