Nigerian singer, Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold, has denied reports that his wife, Simi, gave birth to twins, saying the couple welcomed a baby boy.
Adekunle Gold clarified during an interview on Great Day Houston, a morning show on KHOU 11 television in Houston, Texas, which was uploaded on YouTube on Thursday.
During the interview, the host said the couple had “welcomed twins in early March,” but the singer corrected the claim.
“Not even twins. That’s the internet, by the way. We have a son,” he said.
The clarification came months after reports circulated that the celebrity couple had welcomed twins.
The rumours started in January after Adekunle Gold shared a Snapchat post, where he wrote, “Asked God for another child and He blessed me double,” alongside a photo of two baby outfits captioned, “Double Trouble.”
The post led many fans and entertainment platforms to suggest that the couple had welcomed twins.
Adekunle Gold and Simi had earlier announced in December that they were expecting their second child through the visuals of his song, My Love Is The Same.
The couple also marked their seventh wedding anniversary in January, weeks after the pregnancy announcement.
In an Instagram post, Adekunle Gold described Simi as his best friend and praised their marriage.
“Seven years ago, I married my best friend. And somehow, every year since then has been gentler than the last. We’ve laughed hard, grown deeply, prayed sincerely, and chosen each other again and again,” he wrote.
He added, “And through it all, loving you has been the easiest, most beautiful decision of my life. 7 years in and my heart still knows where it belongs. I love you Simi.”
Simi also celebrated her husband, saying he had brought joy and peace into her life.
“My baby, 7 years. You’re still the one. I’m grateful for the joy and peace you bring to my life. I remember when we were still dating and a friend asked me, ‘why him?’. I said ‘we just fit’. We still fit. You see me. You’re mindful of me. You love me. You know I’m not a gentlelady,” she wrote.
She added, “I’m a fighter, but thank you for not letting me have to fight to be seen and loved. Thank you for being a good man, cause those are hard to come by. Thank you for taking care of me. Thank you for being worth the sacrifice it takes to be a wife and a mommy. I love you. Husband of my youth. Ka pe fun ra wa loruko Jesu.”
Adekunle Gold, who has a six-year-old daughter, Adejare, with Simi, also spoke on being married to another musician.
“It’s interesting to be married to another fantastic songwriter. We bounce off ideas in the home,” he said.
The singer also spoke about his career and his new album, Fuji Xtra, which he said was released on the same night as the interview.
Adekunle Gold, who leads the band, The 79th Element, said the band’s name was inspired by the atomic number 79, which represents gold.
He described his current sound as electrofuji, a lively and percussion-driven style that blends traditional fuji music with modern production.
Adekunle Gold and Simi got married in January 2019 and welcomed their first child in June 2020.
