NDC zoning of presidency to south will promote equity — Party chieftain

Hon. Uche Ben Odunzeh, NDC

A senatorial aspirant for Imo West Senatorial District under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Uche Ben Odunzeh, has expressed optimism that the party’s decision to zone its presidential ticket to the South would promote cohesion, equity, justice, and national balance.

Odunzeh, alongside a large number of supporters, made this known after attending the party’s national convention recently.
He described the decision as a step in the right direction, saying it reflects fairness and responsiveness to the aspirations of party members across the country.

Odunzeh, known for his advocacy for equity and national unity, commended the leadership and stakeholders of the NDC for what he described as a bold and unified stance on zoning the presidential ticket to the South geopolitical zone.

He urged party members to remain peaceful, loyal, and supportive of elected officials throughout their tenure, noting that such discipline would strengthen the party’s vision of delivering good governance.

After exchanging pleasantries with political figures, including Mr. Peter Obi, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Senator Seriake Dickson, among other party chieftains, Odunzeh described the zoning decision as “bold and patriotic.”
According to him, the move reflects fairness, inclusiveness, and respect for Nigeria’s unwritten power-sharing arrangement aimed at fostering national unity.

He added that the decision would give all regions a stronger sense of political belonging and deepen trust within the party structure.
Odunzeh further expressed confidence that strong leadership and grassroots mobilization would strengthen the NDC’s political outlook ahead of future elections, while encouraging continued consultations among stakeholders and aspirants to build consensus and electoral advantage.

“Party members should remain united and committed to the ideals of democracy, as internal harmony will be critical to the party’s success in future elections,” he said.
“The decision to zone the presidency to the South is a commendable step toward equity, justice, and national balance. It demonstrates that the party leadership listens to the yearnings of the people and is determined to preserve unity within the system,” he said.
