A member of the House of Representatives representing Ogbomosho North/Ogbomosho South/Oriire Federal Constituency, Olamijuwonlo Alao Akala, has called for the establishment of a military base in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following a recent attack on schools by suspected bandits.
Akala made the demand during a condolence visit to Oko-Ile community after gunmen reportedly attacked Baptist Primary School, Yawota, and Community High School, Esin-Ele, abducting several students and the school principal.
The lawmaker condemned the attack, describing it as a direct assault on education and public safety.
“This inhumane criminal act, which has been going on for a while now, is a direct assault on our educational system and a grave threat to our collective safety and wellbeing in our homes, schools, and communities. It is unacceptable and strongly condemned,” he said.
He appealed to security agencies in Ogbomoso and across Oyo State to intensify efforts toward rescuing the abducted victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Akala urged the Federal Government to fast-track the implementation of state policing and establish a military base in Oriire Local Government Area to address recurring attacks and insecurity in the area.
“I am using this opportunity to appeal and call on the security operatives in Ogbomoso and across Oyo State to immediately swing into action to rescue the abducted and apprehend the perpetrators of this evil act,” he stated.
The lawmaker assured residents that he would continue to engage relevant stakeholders and monitor developments until normalcy is restored.
He expressed condolences to families affected by the attack and prayed for the safe return of the abducted victims.
“My heartfelt condolences go to the families of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate incident, and I pray for the quick, safe, and unharmed return of all the abducted victims,” he added.
