Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Gombe State scheduled for May 21, 2026, citing alleged violations of the Electoral Act 2026 and lack of transparency in the party’s nomination process.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Pantamiyya Movement, Pantami said his decision followed what he described as repeated breaches of due process, including the failure of the party leadership to provide essential information required for a credible primary election.

He alleged that despite submitting formal inquiries through his legal representatives to relevant party organs, no response or acknowledgment was received regarding key details such as accreditation procedures, voting guidelines, collation processes, and general election logistics.

Pantami stated that he entered the race after encouragement from stakeholders across Gombe State, including youths, women, and community leaders. He also noted that he was the only aspirant who sent a representative to the Peace Accord organised by the Nigeria Police Force, Gombe State Command, on May 14, 2026, adding that his representative was the only one who signed the agreement.

According to him, the party’s failure to comply with Electoral Act provisions and internal guidelines rendered the process “unsafe and illegitimate.” He also referenced concerns raised during the National Assembly primaries in the state, where results were allegedly announced without proper voting procedures.

He further cited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive on credible direct primaries, stating that the instructions were not followed in the conduct of the exercise.

Despite his withdrawal, Pantami expressed appreciation to supporters who contributed financially toward his nomination forms through crowdfunding, with donations reportedly ranging from ₦5,000 to ₦4 million.

The statement added that the Pantamiyya Movement would announce its next political direction in due course, reaffirming its commitment to good governance, lawful democratic engagement, and continued mobilization of supporters across Gombe State and Nigeria.
