The Southeast Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress has commended party leaders, elected officials and members across the region for what it described as the peaceful and transparent conduct of the National Assembly primary elections.
Speaking on behalf of the executive committee in Owerri on Tuesday, the party’s National Vice-Chairman for the Southeast, Dr Ijeomah Arodiogbu, said the cooperation among stakeholders ensured a hitch-free exercise across the five states in the zone.
Arodiogbu also congratulated Hope Uzodimma on his victory in the senatorial primary election and praised the Imo State governor for providing leadership and support during the exercise.
According to him, Uzodimma’s guidance contributed to the successful conduct of the National Assembly primaries across the Southeast.
He further congratulated all elected House of Representatives and senatorial aspirants, expressing confidence in their chances at the forthcoming general elections.
Arodiogbu disclosed that reports submitted by the electoral committee and election monitors appointed by the party’s National Working Committee confirmed the emergence of several candidates in the senatorial primaries across the region.
Those listed as winners included Orji Uzor Kalu for Abia North, Hon. Emeka Atuma for Abia Central and Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr for Abia South.
In Ebonyi State, Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi emerged for Ebonyi North, Engr. Ken Eze for Ebonyi Central and Prof. Anthony Okorie Ani for Ebonyi South.
For Imo State, Uzodimma emerged for Imo West, Sen. Ndubueze Patrick for Imo North and Sen. Alex Mbata for Imo East.
In Enugu State, Sen. Osita Ngwu emerged for Enugu West, Sen. Kelvin Chukwu for Enugu East and Chief Ikeje Asogwa for Enugu North.
The party also announced Hon. Chibuogu Oraelusi for Anambra South, Dr Kene Chiedu Ngozi Benedicta for Anambra Central and Engr. Nelson Onubuogu for Anambra North.
Party sources described the outcome of the primaries as a reflection of unity and internal coordination within the APC in the Southeast.
