The Federal Government has declared tomorrow and Thursday, May 28, 2026, public holidays to mark this year’s Eid al-Adha celebration.

Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the government in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani, yesterday in Abuja.

The minister said, “The declaration affirms the Federal Government’s profound respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims who join the global Islamic community in observing the sacred occasion.”

While conveying the warm felicitations of the government to Muslim faithful at home and in the diaspora, Tunji-Ojo noted that the festival holds deep spiritual significance grounded in sacrifice, obedience, and compassion.

The minister further urged citizens to utilise the two-day holiday for prayer and sober reflection, asking for divine guidance as the country navigates its path towards sustained peace, security, and economic prosperity.

He added that it was in the spirit of shared humanity, brotherhood, and national unity that the government wished all Muslims a peaceful and joyous celebration.

Meanwhile, the President of Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT), Alhaji Ayodeji AbdulRauf, has urged Muslims to uphold the values of peace, sacrifice, compassion and unity as they celebrate Eid-al-Adha.

In a statement yesterday, AbdulRauf congratulated Nigerian Muslims and their counterparts globally, describing Eid al-Adha as a period of prayer, reflection and charity.

According to him, the festival reminds Muslims of the importance of faith, sacrifice and caring for the less privileged in society.
