You can’t be nation’s candidate-general – SDP presidential candidate tells Tinubu

Adewole Adebayo

Presidency candidate of the Society Democratic Party(SDP) Adewole Adebayo, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu was fueling internal crises within opposition parties, alleging that the challenges facing the SDP were politically motivated.

The presidential candidate, while speaking on Arise TV on Tuesday, claimed that the issues confronting the SDP were similar to what he described as interference in other political parties.

He further accused the president of attempting to exert influence beyond his party, arguing that Tinubu should focus on the affairs of the ruling party.

“I am simply letting President Tinubu know that he cannot be the candidate for the APC, SDP, and Labour Party; he cannot be the Candidate-General of the nation. He should stick to his own party,” he stated.

“President Tinubu is the author of the so-called crisis in the SDP. What they are doing to the SDP mirrors what they have done to other political parties,” he said.

Adebayo criticised what he described as overreach into institutions and political processes.

“They passed a law stating that no one can belong to more than one party, yet Tinubu wants to be affiliated with all political parties while acting as the Chairman of INEC and a part-time Chief Justice of Nigeria,” Adebayo added.

The remarks come amid ongoing political realignments and internal disputes within several opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general election.
