Social media personality and self-styled relationship therapist, Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, on Tuesday appeared before the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, following her arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N69.15 million fraud.
The EFCC, through its Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, brought a two-count charge against the influencer, accusing her of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing the sum of N69,150,000.
During the proceedings before Justice R.A. Oshodi, prosecution counsel C.C. Okezie urged the court to proceed with the arraignment, maintaining that the defendant had been properly served with the charge. Defence counsel Nkama Nneka, however, argued that the service was only recently effected.
After considering both submissions, Justice Oshodi ruled that the arraignment should go ahead in line with legal provisions. The charges were subsequently read to the defendant, marking the commencement of trial proceedings in the matter.
The case adds to the legal challenges currently facing Blessing CEO, whose activities on social media have frequently drawn public attention and controversy.
