He was laid to rest on Thursday in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, following an emotional funeral ceremony attended by family, friends, colleagues, and admirers.
The 40-year-old actor, one of Nollywood’s most recognisable faces, passed away on May 11, at Evercare Hospital after a battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer. The burial followed a wake-keep held on Wednesday, June 17, which drew an outpouring of grief and tributes from across the entertainment industry.
The funeral service and interment on Thursday marked the final chapter in the life of a star whose charm, talent, and vibrant personality earned him a special place in the hearts of fans across Africa.
Hundreds of mourners gathered in Arochukwu, many dressed in black commemorative T-shirts bearing Ekubo’s image, as they paid their last respects to the actor. The atmosphere was filled with emotion as family members, friends, and colleagues reflected on his life, career, and lasting impact on Nollywood.
Several actors, filmmakers, and entertainment personalities travelled from different parts of the country to honour the late movie star. Among those who publicly shared their grief was actress Angela Okorie.
The actress shared footage of her journey on social media and called on fans to keep Ekubo’s family in their prayers during the difficult period.
Since news of his passing broke, tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues and fans, many describing him as a gifted actor, loyal friend, and inspirational figure whose presence illuminated every room he entered.
Among attendees were Ekubo’s bossom friend and colleague Ik Ogbonna, Michael Godson, AY, Ini Edo, Omoni Oboli, Yomi Casual, Funke Akindele, and Segun Arinze.
