The Galaxy Music Awards (GMA) has officially announced the commencement of season seven edition.

The announcement was made at the Landmark POP, Victoria Island, Lagos, bringing together key stakeholders from Nigeria’s music, entertainment, business, media, and public sectors to celebrate the remarkable journey of Nigerian music and unveil a bold new chapter for one of the country’s leading music recognition platforms.

Since its inception, the Galaxy Music Awards has remained committed to recognizing excellence, rewarding creativity, promoting cultural expression, and creating opportunities for emerging and established talents across the Nigerian entertainment industry. Over the past six seasons, the platform has evolved from a promising awards initiative into a respected institution dedicated to celebrating the achievements of artists, producers, songwriters, executives, media professionals, content creators, and industry stakeholders whose work continues to shape the future of African entertainment.

As Nigeria’s creative industry continues to emerge as one of the nation’s most influential economic and cultural exports, GMA has consistently championed the talents and innovations driving this transformation.

Through strategic partnerships, industry engagement, talent development initiatives, and its yearly awards ceremony, GMA has played an important role in amplifying the voices of creatives while fostering meaningful conversations around the future of music and entertainment.

With the theme, Kalakuta, it’s celebrating artistes and creatives who dare to challenge convention, break barriers, and redefine possibilities.

Founder, GMA, Azubuike Stanley Amauchechukwu, said that the theme recognizes the fearless nature of Nigerian creatives whose work continues to resonate across continents and cultures and also reflects the determination of an industry that has transformed Afrobeats from a regional sound into a global phenomenon embraced by millions worldwide.

“Today, Nigerian music occupies a prominent position on the world stage. Nigerian artists headline major international festivals, dominate global streaming platforms, secure international endorsements, and influence contemporary culture across Africa, Europe, North America, Asia, and beyond. The success of Afrobeats has not only elevated artists but has also created opportunities for producers, managers, promoters, media practitioners, fashion brands, technology companies, and countless entrepreneurs operating within the creative ecosystem.”

“As part of the event, attendees will participate in two specially curated panel sessions designed to facilitate meaningful dialogue and industry engagement. The first panel session, titled “The GMA Journey: Seven Seasons of Celebrating Excellence,” will feature members of the GMA leadership team discussing the evolution of the awards platform, key milestones achieved over the years, lessons learned, and the organization’s vision for the future. The session will examine the role of music awards in talent development, industry recognition, and cultural preservation while highlighting the impact of GMA on artists and stakeholders throughout its history.

“The second panel session, titled “Afrobeats and the Global Stage: The Next Chapter,” will bring together music executives, industry professionals, and creative leaders to discuss the growth trajectory of Afrobeats as a global genre. Conversations will focus on international market expansion, intellectual property protection, artist development, monetization opportunities, digital innovation, investment in the creative sector, and strategies for sustaining the global momentum of Nigerian music.

Speaking on the significance of Season 7, Amauchechukwu, said: “The Galaxy Music Awards was founded on the belief that Nigerian creatives deserve platforms that recognize their excellence, amplify their achievements, and inspire future generations. Over the years, we have witnessed the extraordinary growth of our music industry and the global acceptance of Afrobeats as a cultural force. Season 7 represents another important milestone in our journey and an opportunity to celebrate not only the artists we honor but also the ecosystem of professionals who contribute to the success of our industry every day.”

“The theme Kalakuta embodies the fearless spirit that has driven Nigerian creativity for decades. It is a celebration of innovation, resilience, authenticity, and cultural pride.

Through this year’s edition, we aim to deepen industry conversations, strengthen partnerships, create new opportunities for talent, and further position the Galaxy Music Awards as a platform that contributes meaningfully to the advancement of African music and culture.”

The 7th Galaxy Music Awards will culminate in a spectacular live awards ceremony scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at the Landmark Event Centre
Victoria Island, Lagos. The event is expected to attract leading artists, music executives, policymakers, diplomats, corporate leaders, investors, media professionals, cultural advocates, and entertainment enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond.
