The Ondo State Police Command has vowed to prevent any planned activities by cult groups marking their annual July 7 event, popularly known as the “7/7” celebration, across the state.
   
To that end, the command said security operatives have been deployed to identified flashpoints and prevent any breakdown of law and order.
   
In a statement on behalf of the police authorities, the command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, warned that any procession, gathering, or initiation associated with the cult celebration would be met with decisive action.
   
Jimoh disclosed that intelligence reports indicated that some groups were planning activities capable of threatening the public peace and endangering innocent lives. Consequently, the
“Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has ordered the immediate deployment of robust security assets across strategic locations throughout the state, with operatives placed on red alert to intercept any unlawful assembly before it escalates into violence.
   
“The deployment comprises personnel from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), State Intelligence Department, and Mobile Police Force, as well as officers from various area commands and divisions across the state.”
   
The command further warned that it would not tolerate the display of cult insignia, the brandishing of weapons, violent processions, or any act capable of causing fear or panic among law-abiding residents.
   
It advised parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against associating with unlawful groups or participating in activities connected with the proposed celebration, while urging proprietors of hotels, lounges, event centres, bars and recreational facilities not to allow their premises to be used for gatherings linked to cult-related activities.
   
The police also called on community leaders, youth organisations, transport unions, school authorities and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information on suspicious movements or gatherings to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
   
The command reassured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to guarantee the safety of lives and property, while urging them to go about their lawful businesses without fear.
