Ogun ADC disowns Ogundipe as 2027 governorship candidate, backs Jimi Lawal

African Democratic Congress (ADC)

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State has dismissed claims that Dr. Biodun Collins Ogundipe is the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The party also urged Ogundipe to stop presenting himself as its governorship candidate, insisting that Hon. Jimi Lawal is the party’s recognised governorship candidate in the state.

Speaking in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the party’s Secretary, Olusoji Agbebiyi, said the state leadership was unaware of any primary election that produced Ogundipe as the party’s governorship candidate.

Agbebiyi alleged that Ogundipe was being used by unnamed individuals to disrupt the party and undermine its chances in the 2027 general election.

He also dismissed claims that the Ogun State chapter of the ADC was divided into factions, maintaining that the party remains united and focused on winning elective offices in the state.

“We did not pick Ogundipe as our governorship candidate. He is only parading himself as the governorship candidate,” Agbebiyi said.

“The ADC in Ogun State does not recognise Ogundipe as the governorship candidate of our party. He is not our candidate. Hon. Jimi Lawal is the rightful governorship candidate.”

He added, “Ogundipe is being used by some elements to disrupt the ADC in Ogun State. He is not our candidate, and he is not fit to contest the governorship election on the platform of our party.”

On the reported crisis within the party, Agbebiyi said, “There is no faction in Ogun State. The Ogun ADC remains one because all the state executive members are together, and we have our secretariat at Itoko. My message to our supporters is to remain patient. Very soon, we will resolve all issues within our party.”

Efforts to obtain Ogundipe’s reaction to the allegations were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
