The Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET), Rivers State, and the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Zaria, Kaduna State, have acknowledged receiving a combined N91.97 million from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to settle the institutional charges of their students.
Of the total amount, FUET received N85.12 million to pay the institutional fees of 395 students under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme, while NILEST was disbursed N6.85 million to cover the registration fees of 141 students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
In a letter dated May 22, 2026 and signed by the Vice Chancellor, of FUET, Prof. Prince Ch. Mmom, the university acknowledged receiving the funds in three batches.
According to the institution, the first batch comprised 118 beneficiaries who received N25,915,398, the second batch covered 142 students with N30,404,462, while the third batch catered for 135 beneficiaries with N28,799,735, bringing the total disbursement to ₦85,119,595.
Similarly, in a letter signed by the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Institute, Dr. Auwal Imam, dated June 1, 2026 and addressed to the Managing Director of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, it acknowledged receipt of the fifth, sixth and seventh tranches of the students’ loan disbursement.
The breakdown showed that 79 students benefited from N3.628 million under the fifth tranche, 61 students received N3.173 million in the sixth tranche, while one student received N49,950 under the seventh tranche.
Both institutions applauded the Fund for its commitment to expanding access to higher education through the student loan scheme, noting that the intervention has eased the financial burden on beneficiaries, enhanced access to tertiary education, and enabled students to pursue their academic programmes without disruption.
They also expressed appreciation for NELFUND’s continued partnership and support in advancing the Federal Government’s education financing initiative.
