The German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, will be in Nigeria between July 21 and 22 for high-level political consultations and engagements.

The visit, which will hold in Lagos and Abuja, respectively underlines the close relationship between Germany and Nigeria.

The statement issued weekend by the German Embassy in Nigeria read that Wadephul would be accompanied by a business delegation of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and high-ranking board members of German companies in the fields of Information Technology (IT) and energy as well as Members of German Parliament.

In Abuja, Foreign Minister Wadephul is expected to hold talks with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ujukwu and with the President, Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Dr Omar Touray, to discuss regional developments, peace and security, economic integration and opportunities for closer cooperation between Germany and West Africa.

The Lagos leg of the visit will focus on strengthening economic and cultural ties. The Foreign Minister will participate in a business roundtable with representatives from German and Nigerian companies, highlighting the growing economic partnership between both countries and exploring opportunities for increased trade and investment. He will also meet with civil society representatives and cultural practitioners.

“Germany and Nigeria share a strong partnership based on mutual respect and common interests. As Africa’s largest economy and one of Germany’s most important partners on the continent, Nigeria plays a key role in addressing global challenges ranging from sustainable economic development and energy transition to regional peace and security.

“The visit reflects Germany’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Nigeria and with West Africa as a whole”, the statement read.
