The Kano State House of Assembly has challenged local council Chairmen to explained the efficiency of the monthly security allocation while several communities still battle terrorist attacks.

 

Worried by the resurgence of criminal invasion in Ghari/Tsanyawa local government areas, the legislators vowed to query the council chiefs on the utilization of security votes.

 

In a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Ghari/Tsanyawa Constituency, Garba Ya’u Gwarmai, at Tuesday’s plenary, the assembly resolved to invite the concern council Chairmen for explanation.

 

During the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Ismail Falgore, Gwarmai said communities in Tsanyawa Local Government Area had been subjected to repeated attacks in recent weeks.

 

According to the lawmaker, the situation at the communities neighboring Katsina state continued to deteriorate with farming activities crippled, education and healthcare and commercial activities suspended.

 

According to him, the Assembly had earlier directed the local government authorities to submit a report detailing how the allocated security funds were utilised, wondered why the directive has not been honoured.

 

Following deliberations, the House mandated its relevant committee to compel the affected local government to account for the security funds and strengthen oversight of their utilisation.

 

The Assembly also urged the state and Federal Governments to take urgent measures to contain the growing insecurity in border communities before it spreads to other parts of Kano State.

 

Gwarmai said the latest attack occurred in Yan Cibi community, Yan Kame Ward, where suspected bandits attempted to abduct residents and rustle livestock before security operatives curtailed the criminals.

 

Despite the security intervention, the lawmaker regretted the attack claimed lives of community leader and vigilante member, while several residents sustained gunshot injuries, some of them still at medical centre receiving treatment.

 

Gwarmai applauded the military and police for recovering many of the stolen cattle but noted that difficult terrain along the Katsina border prevented security operatives from pursuing the fleeing attackers.

 

He urged the state and Federal Governments to reinforce security in the affected communities by deploying additional troops and improving logistics.

 

He also questioned the utilisation of the monthly security allocation reportedly released to local governments, alleging that soldiers operating in the area lacked basic support despite the funds being available.

 

The troops of the Joint Task Force deployed at Forward Operating Bases (FOBs)bin the trouble communities recently foiled bandits attack and prevented the rustling of livestock in Yankamaye, Rimaye axis along the Kano and Katsina high way.

 

“Acting on credible intelligence on 15 July 2026 at about 17:45, that armed bandits were moving rustled livestock around Yankamaye and Rimaye general area.

 

” Troops captured 2 terrorist and recovered 1 motorcycle, 97 cattle, and 50 sheep. Recovered cattle have been returned complete to their rightful owners.

 

“Regrettably, one local vigilante, Mallam Yusuf Adamu, aged 47 from Yanchibi Village, loss his life after being caught in the crossfire. The Nigerian Army extends its heartfelt condolences to his family and the entire Yanchibi community over this unfortunate incident”. Major Zubairu explained.
