Managing Director of Chrisland Schools, Ibironke Adeyemi, has enjoined the 378 graduating students across its schools in Lagos and Abuja to hold fast to values as they enter higher institutions, saying academic success must be matched with character.

Adeyemi spoke at the joint valedictory service and prize-giving ceremony of the school, themed: ‘Anchored in values, launched for greatness.’

She said the graduation marks a milestone for the school, which has been in operation for nearly 50 years.

Addressing the graduating students, Adeyemi said the theme of the ceremony should guide them going forward.

“As you proceed to higher institutions, think big and stay focused, pursue excellence in your academics and personal lives, see challenges as opportunities, and do not give in to negative peer pressure. Dare to stand out, hold fast to your values, and let your uniqueness be the light that guides your path,” she stated.

Former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, who chaired the event, enjoined the students to approach the next phase of their lives with discipline and integrity.

“Work hard, act with integrity, stay humble and serve others. Some of you will lead in business, medicine, engineering, and government. And yes, some of you will become politicians. When you do, please be politicians with conscience and character.”

He urged them to continue learning and prioritise values over achievements.

“Never stop learning; build your life on character, not achievement alone; do not fear failure; bear in mind that true success includes service and most importantly, value relationships,” he said.

Mamora also acknowledged parents and teachers for their efforts, sacrifices, time, resources, and prayers.

The Guest Speaker, Dr Glory Enyinnaya, an old student and Academic Director of Institutional Growth Initiative at Pan Atlantic University (PAU), Lagos, urged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the school.

She enjoined them to recognise their gifts, collaborate, and remain committed in their academic and professional journeys.

On her part, the wife of the governor and first lady of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, said the theme speaks to the foundation needed in a changing world.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by Mrs Mojisola Agbaje, pointed out that in a world where success is often measured by material achievements, the theme serves as a reminder that true greatness is built on a solid foundation of integrity, honesty, diligence, and service to humanity.

“Skills may open doors, but it is character that keeps those doors open,” Agbaje said.

She noted that the graduates are entering a period defined by Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital innovation, climate change and global competition.

“Your ability to adapt, think creatively, collaborate effectively, and uphold strong moral values will determine how far you go,” she added.

At the ceremony, three outstanding students received the Managing Director’s Award. They include Darren Moyosore Ohiomoba of Chrisland High School, Lekki, who won for academic excellence; Doreen Okoduwa Chinasa of Chrisland High School (CHS), VGC, who won for sports; and Akinlabi Oluwafeyikemi Esther of Chrisland High School, VGC, who won for creative and performing arts.
