Minister of Communication, Dr. Bosun Tijani, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun and Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Abeokuta, Oba(Prof.) Saka Matemilola are dignitaries expected to grace the unveiling of Nigeria’s first 10Gbps Dedicated Smart Campus Network and Innovation at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.

 

Other dignitaries expected to at the event schedule to take place on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the institution’s campus in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital includes: Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Salisu Shuaib and Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu.

 

The project, initiated by the Advanced Technological Incubation and Research Center (ATIRC) in partnership with MAPOLY, is a landmark initiative representing the first deployment of an enterprise-grade 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps) dedicated broadband network by any public tertiary institution in the state and across Nigeria.

 

The project apart from being a Smart Campus Network within the institution will also accelerate cutting-edge research in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, Robotics, Data Science, and Internet as well as other emerging technologies and Support startup incubation, digital entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology commercialization.

 

Speaking on the significance of the project, the Head of Research and Innovation at the Advanced Technological Incubation and Research Center (ATIRC) Bashirat Bamgiboye said that the project positioned MAPOLY as a national leader in digital transformation, smart education, research excellence, and technology-driven innovation while creating a model for future-ready higher education institutions across the country.

 

Bamigboye noted that the Smart Campus Network delivers ultra-high-speed, secure, low-latency connectivity to support AI, machine learning, HPC, cloud computing, cybersecurity, IoT, robotics, data science, digital twins, AR/VR, smart classrooms, e-learning, and collaborative research.

 

She explained that embedded within the infrastructure is the ATIRC Innovation Program, a world-class technology incubation and research hub that fosters collaboration among students, researchers, startups, entrepreneurs, government agencies, and industry partners to develop, test, validate, and commercialize innovative solutions addressing both national and global challenges.

 

Bamigboye, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Alhaja Theultimate Computer Services (ATCS), described the initiative as a transformational milestone for Nigeria’s higher education and innovation ecosystem.

 

“The launch of this 10Gbps Smart Campus Network is far more than the deployment of broadband infrastructure. It represents the establishment of a national innovation sandbox where students, researchers, startups, government institutions, and industry partners can experiment, develop, validate, and scale cutting-edge technologies.

 

“This dedicated innovation ecosystem will empower local technology startups, accelerate advanced artificial intelligence research, strengthen cybersecurity capabilities, promote technology commercialization, foster industry-academia collaboration, and provide the digital infrastructure required for globally competitive research and innovation.” She added.
