The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has intensified its criticism of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, alleging that the President has lost the confidence of what it described as “credible Nigerians” because of the poor performance of his administration.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the opposition party claimed that the Tinubu administration had failed to address the country’s pressing economic and security challenges, insisting that its record in office had eroded public confidence.

According to the party, the President’s re-election bid is being championed largely by “discredited politicians” and individuals seeking political protection from corruption allegations, rather than by ordinary Nigerians.

“The Allied People’s Movement asserts that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not commanding the support of credible Nigerians because of his horrible performance in office,” Yusuf said, adding that those advocating the President’s return in 2027 were ignoring the hardship facing millions of Nigerians.

The party argued that persistent inflation, rising cost of living, unemployment, widespread poverty and insecurity had combined to diminish public trust in the administration.

It further alleged that many of the President’s supporters were politically compromised and no longer enjoyed the confidence of the electorate.

The APM also accused the administration of pursuing policies that had weakened the productive sector of the economy, claiming that millions of businesses had either closed or were struggling to survive under what it described as “asphyxiating policies.”

The opposition party further referenced recent allegations surrounding the 2026 Appropriation Bill, claiming that the insertion of fictitious projects worth billions of naira reflected what it described as the culture of impunity within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
On security, the party maintained that the Federal Government had failed to provide effective solutions to terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country, arguing that Nigerians continued to bear the consequences of worsening insecurity.
The statement also criticised the Federal Government’s borrowing profile, alleging that the country’s external debt had risen to about $51.86 billion, which it claimed was mortgaging Nigeria’s future.

According to the APM, supporting President Tinubu’s re-election would amount to endorsing continued economic hardship, unemployment, insecurity and poor governance.

The party further alleged that some of those campaigning for the President’s second term had their families and investments abroad and were disconnected from the realities confronting ordinary Nigerians.

Looking ahead to the 2027 presidential election, the APM expressed confidence that Nigerians were increasingly aligning with the party, describing Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, whom it identified as its presidential candidate, as a credible alternative capable of leading the country out of its current challenges.
“The APM remains unfazed but focused, especially as Nigerians—the victims of APC misrule—are rallying with our party and candidate in the quest to liberate our nation and set it on the path of economic prosperity, social stability and national cohesion,” the statement added.

The party’s latest remarks add to the growing exchange of political attacks between the ruling APC and opposition parties as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
