The G6 bloc of governorship aspirants in the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims by Senator Sharafadeen Alli that the group had abandoned its governorship ambition and embraced ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group, in a statement issued on Tuesday, described the senator’s assertion as premature, insisting that no agreement had been reached on the emergence of a consensus governorship candidate.

The G6 maintained that while its members remained committed to the unity and electoral success of the APC, they would only support a consensus candidate produced through a credible and transparent process.

The group said it was prepared to work with whoever President Bola Tinubu eventually endorses as the party’s consensus governorship candidate.

“We are good party members and will gladly work for the victory of our great party with anyone President Bola Ahmed Tinubu picks as the consensus candidate,” the statement said.

It added: “Oyo State APC is yet to have a governorship candidate, and Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who has been parading himself as the candidate of our great party, is living in delusion.”

The aspirants insisted that their position had not changed, stressing that the party must review the ongoing process to produce a consensus candidate acceptable to the majority of party members.

“While G6 is committed to the success of our party in the 2027 general elections, we insist that the process must be reviewed to produce a consensus that will ensure the emergence of a candidate most party members can accept and support, not an aspirant using propaganda in a bid to impose himself as the party’s candidate,” the statement added.

The group reiterated that the APC remained “one indivisible family with a strong electoral profile” and expressed confidence that President Tinubu would guide the party towards an acceptable resolution.

The reaction followed comments by Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District and is one of the APC governorship aspirants, during the “A Day with BSA” media interaction organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, in Ibadan.

At the event, Alli had said reconciliation efforts within the party were yielding results, disclosing that one of the G6 members met him on Monday and assured him that the group would cooperate with the reconciliation process.

He also revealed that he recently held discussions in Abuja with another governorship aspirant on the way forward ahead of the 2027 elections.

“On my part, I have also been going round to reconcile with members, both the governorship and the senatorial aspirants. I can tell you this party is going to resolve all that you think is a crisis,” Alli had said.

The G6 statement was endorsed by former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Rauf Olaniyan; Prince Musbau Asanike; Barrister Akeem Agbaje; Engr. Hakeem Alao Oyedele; and Dr. Ololade Usman Bakare.
