Women in Energy Network (WIEN) has said that women remain underrepresented in technical, commercial and executive leadership roles despite growing opportunities across Nigeria’s oil, gas and renewable energy industries, prompting the organisation to strengthen its learning and leadership programmes.
It noted that the Women in Energy Network Academy has, over the past six months, expanded structured executive education, mentoring and career development programmes aimed at equipping women with the technical, commercial and leadership skills required to take advantage of opportunities created by reforms across Nigeria’s energy sector.
According to WIEN, the Academy’s expanded activities come as Nigeria advances new licensing rounds, gas commercialisation initiatives, energy transition programmes and increased investments across the industry, even as women remain underrepresented in key technical and leadership positions. The Academy was established to help address that gap through structured learning interventions and professional development.
Between January and July 2026, the Academy delivered executive masterclasses, mentoring sessions and career development programmes covering business taxation, commercial acumen and energy economics, leadership and decision-making, Nigeria’s Decade of Gas Initiative, resilience and career management.
Building on those programmes, the Academy plans to launch a four-part Executive Programme on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) in the third quarter of 2026. According to WIEN, the programme will cover governance, sustainability reporting, climate finance, social impact, stakeholder engagement and organisational leadership, while preparing participants to lead ESG transformation.
Director of the WIEN Academy, Dorothy Eboh, said the institution was established to ensure women are not merely participants in Nigeria’s energy transition but leaders shaping its future.
