The Oyo State Government has inaugurated an eight-member Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of students and teachers in Esiele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area.

The commission, inaugurated by Governor Seyi Makinde, is chaired by retired Justice of the Court of Appeal, Professor Mojeed Owoade.

Other members are Professor Jibril Ibrahim, Mrs. Ayo Obe, retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ngozi Onadeko; Dr.  Abimbola Orogade; retired Major General Sanusi Nasir Muazu, a former General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army; and Mr.  Folorunsho Osunrayi.

Mrs. Olamide Sandra Tella will serve as Secretary of the commission.

Speaking during the inauguration, Makinde commended the members for accepting what he described as a national assignment, expressing confidence in their ability to carry out the responsibility with diligence.

“I called you out on a national assignment and none of the eight of you hesitated for once to accept to participate in this important call to duty. God bless you,” the governor said.

The commission is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the students and teachers in the affected communities and make recommendations to the government.

The inauguration of the panel follows the recent rescue of the victims after weeks in captivity, amid renewed calls for measures to strengthen security and prevent similar incidents across the state.
