• Lawmakers await party’s directive on embattled Speaker’s fate
• APC elders reject Aiyedatiwa’s reconciliation move

Ondo State House of Assembly has constituted a four-man audit committee to examine the financial records of the legislative arm in a move to impeach the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji.

Spokesperson of the Assembly, Olatunji Fabiyi, disclosed that the committee was set up when lawmakers resumed plenary yesterday after weeks of inactivity.

According to him, the audit committee would scrutinise the Assembly’s financial dealings and make recommendations where necessary amid allegations of financial impropriety rocking the House.

Fabiyi, who insisted that the planned impeachment of the Speaker remains on course, stressed that the lawmakers are currently awaiting the outcome of intervention by the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership before taking the next step.

“We are still waiting for the leadership of the party. We cannot proceed further until the party gives us direction. So, the matter is pending,” he said.

Fabiyi said the Assembly reconvened in response to public concerns over the prolonged absence of plenary sittings, stressing that lawmakers remain committed to their constitutional responsibility.

He said the House passed resolutions on key developmental issues and also constituted an audit committee expected to examine the Assembly’s financial and administrative records and make recommendations where necessary.

MEANWHILE, the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ondo State chapter, took a new twist yesterday, as elders of the party dismissed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s reconciliation efforts as insincere, stressing that the governor is not committed to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the state.

According to the elders, under the aegis of PBAT Elders Mandate Forum, Aiyedatiwa’s reconciliation committee remains unknown to them, accusing him of prioritising personal grievances over the collective interest of the party.

Chairman of the Forum, Demola Ijabiyi, while speaking during a media briefing in Akure, the state capital, expressed concern over what he described as the governor’s lukewarm attitude toward mobilising support for Tinubu and other APC candidates in the state.

Ijabiyi described the governor’s purported moves as “political theatre” designed to create an illusion of unity while deep divisions fester beneath the surface of the party.

The elders, however, lauded the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo’s mobilisation for Tinubu’s re-election, harping on his support for numerous political and grassroots support groups, as well as his generosity to individuals and communities across the state.
