Says continuity crucial to sustaining economic, social reforms

A United States (U.S.)-based Nigerian entrepreneur/engineer and project management expert, Dr Atilade Oshoniyi, has urged Nigerians to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, describing continuity as crucial to sustaining the economic and social reforms introduced by the current administration.

Oshoniyi said that Tinubu’s policies were designed to address long-standing structural challenges that had slowed Nigeria’s growth and development over the years, adding that a second term would provide the stability needed to consolidate ongoing reforms.

According to him, while some of the administration’s policies have imposed short-term hardships on citizens, they are necessary measures aimed at rebuilding the economy and laying a stronger foundation for future prosperity.

He, therefore, called on Nigerians to look beyond immediate challenges and support the President’s re-election bid, stressing that policy consistency and continuity remain critical to achieving lasting national development.

Oshoniyi, while highlighting what he described as key achievements of the administration in its first two years, noted that Tinubu had embarked on far-reaching economic, infrastructure and social reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria for long-term growth.

He noted the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the foreign exchange market as major policy decisions that have strengthened the government’s finances and freed up resources for development.

According to him, federation revenue has increased significantly, while non-oil revenue generation and foreign reserves have recorded notable growth under the administration.

He, however, cited increased crude oil production, a reduction in oil theft and the revival of domestic refining capacity as indicators of progress.

The expert, who also referenced ongoing reforms in the power sector, including the implementation of the Electricity Act, expansion of state electricity markets and efforts to improve electricity metering nationwide, among others, said that the administration’s policies might be painful in the short term but are essential for building a stronger economy and creating long-term opportunities for Nigerians.

“The reforms currently being implemented require time to deliver their full benefits. Sustaining them through continuity in leadership is the best path to ensuring Nigeria achieves the economic transformation envisioned by this administration,” he said.
