The Management of the FUTA Teaching Hospital (FUTATH) has clarified the salary arrangement for workers following the hospital’s transition to a federal institution, stating that there are currently two categories of staff whose salaries are being paid by different tiers of government.

 

In a statement issued by the Head, Public Relations Unit, Tope Fayehun, the management explained that permanent staff who were inherited from the former state-owned hospital remain on the payroll of the Ondo State Government.

 

Fayehun disclosed that the federal government assumed responsibility for the salaries of non-regular staff engaged to sustain operations since the hospital became a federal teaching hospital.

 

The hospital stressed that comments recently credited to its Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olusegun Ojo, were never intended to suggest that the federal government had taken over the payment of salaries for all workers.

 

According to the management, the federal government’s intervention has covered the remuneration of non-regular personnel recruited to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services during the transition period, while the Ondo State Government has continued to fulfil its obligation to permanent employees.

 

The management further noted that the arrangement is in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the federal and Ondo State governments during the transfer of the hospital.

 

It added that both governments have continued to play their respective roles in ensuring the smooth operation of the institution pending the full implementation of the transition process.

 

Organized labour had earlier accused the hospital management of allegedly injecting non-existing workers into the system and threatened to sustain and escalate industrial actions until their demands were met.

 

While reaffirming its commitment to transparency and quality healthcare delivery, the management urged members of the public and stakeholders to disregard misconceptions capable of creating unnecessary tension.

 

It also expressed appreciation to both the Federal and Ondo State governments for their continued support and appealed for sustained cooperation as the hospital consolidates its position as a federal tertiary health institution.
